Ok,
So we are finally finished shipping ALL the book orders Yesterday. Phew… It was only two of us. Every lunch break in the past few weeks and some late night/weekend to pack/print/ship all orders. I did not think it was this much work….
We really really apologize for the huge delay. Those who ordered books online have been very patient.(you guys are the best!) Thank you and hope you receive your books soon!

Meanwhile, 50 copies of the book at Cartoon Art Museum are sold out. Wow.. we really are out of this first edition…very fast.. Those who saw what the book looks like know that this book is a work of art by itself. The choice of paper/biding is pretty exquisite and some of the publishers we have talked to said it’d be very difficult to duplicate the same quality book at the same cost.

And I know this is sold at different prices at various places. Personally, I don’t mind it. The book itself isn’t really for a fund raising product. The book was mainly made to be used to thank artists and supporters. If people are re-selling at the higher value, as long as it is reasonable, I think it is ok. One of the most respected book sellers, Stuart NG is selling it too for higher prices and I totally think it’s ok. We, artists need them to survive to keep feeding us with great books from all over the world. Besides, they are still contributing to spread the words out.
My lunch hours have been nothing but these yellow packages…..aaghhhhhH!
We went to see the show at Cartoon Art this past weekend. Wow. They did a good job. Beautifully set up. Wish lighting was a bit better. Some of the art work looked really dark.. Can’t wait to see the second show to be up in December when we have both shows up at the same time for a month!
Lots of SF locals enjoy What is Your Totoro exhibition.
2 geeky fans eagerly drool over the beautiful paintings on the wall. Oh wait a second, they are the famous Daniel Lopez and Bob, the Giant, MacKenzie!

I can’t wait for the postman! Thank you very very much for planning the fund-raising and the wonderful book, the perfect memento for the perfect mix of art and nature conservation!
ahhhwww…… man. I soooo NEED a copy. =)
Can you please please print more? I live in Washington DC and have been doing everything I can to get a copy, including subjecting some of my west-coast friends to horrendous San Francisco traffic to make it to the Cartoon Art Museum before the books sold out. …they couldn’t make it in time.
I’m begging you, please make more. You can even jack up the price to make it a “fund raising project,” I’d be thrilled to donate!
Hi! Is there any way i can pre-order from the next batch (i really want it!!) ?
lovely cause. I honeslty didn’t know about all of this. Weirdly enough because I’m a huge Miyazaki fan. I was just googling my favourite illustrator, rebecca dautremer, and surprise surprise!
I fell into a totoro forest online! Lovely!!
I was also able to go to the Cartoon Art Museum over the past weekend. During the auction , it was an adrenaline rush in getting into the game of bidding on your favorite piece as well as meeting artists in this one event. At the museum, you get a different feeling as you can view the pieces in leisure. I highly recommend getting the Totoro story book as a companion. http://www.amazon.com/Neighbor-Totoro-Picture-Book-Art/dp/1591165954. It gives perspective on the choices that the artist took in approach of the pieces. a) capturing the singular joy of Totoro characters and expressing it in a point of view of adult b) focusing on importance of nature, c) spirits that dwell in our imagine d) many more. The breath is very extensive It is an amazing show at the Cartoon Art Museum.
As far as the Ebay flippers/resellers, there is nothing wrong from a business perspective as they are trying to get the maximum value from supply and demand point of view. In other words, there is nothing illegal in their business practice. However, personally, I think that it is not right as a matter of principle. Based on the blog, volunteers spent countless hours for this charity on top of their day job. It is a huge sacrifice on time just shipping the books. Artists donated arts for this cause. Unfortunately, some books were hoarded and resold where it have otherwise been available on the website at book value. I think that there are many young and starving art students where the contributing artists are their heroes/heroines but cannot afford the book at current market price. I think that there is a demand for a 2nd printing but it is really burden on the Forest Friends.
Awesome thanks so much for putting this together I can’t wait till my book arrives

Sorry to contact you this way – can’t seem to get the contact link to work on this computer. I bought mine on the 1st of Oct, got confirmation, but still haven’t received it – it’s been a while. I understand that the mail is slow but… the tracking # says it’s left SF on Oct 11, so more than two weeks then no information whatsoever. Any idea of how I can check the status any further? Apologies, I know you already have so much to do and think of but i’m not quite sure what to do!
