Totoro Forest Project Book Sold Out!

Posted on Monday 22 September 2008

It’s been only a few hours… and it was gone… just like that!

Hope those who wanted the book got their orders in.  Also, we apologize our technical difficulties earlier.  People who made double orders because of it, please email admin@totoroforestproject.org.

Once again, thank you all for your tremendous support for this project.  We will process your order as soon as we can but please be patient since it’s only a few volunteer workers taking your orders.  We will have some more books available at Cartoon Art Museum as well as APE festival in San Francisco in November!

Please print more, otherwise I’ll just have to buy an ebay one, and you wouldn’t want that would you?

I was wondering also, the book contains all the art done for the auction/show right? because it says 184 plates but weren’t there 200 something artists?

    3 hours, congratulations!!

Please tell me you are at least considering printing more for those of us who unfortunately took a 4 hour internet break. :(

(tracking one down at the museum or the APE festival is a little difficult for us east coasters)

Man, that sucks big time. Though good for the forest! Stuck in meetings most of today. Why such low print runs? Guess there’s always a first printing on eBay for insane pricing. :(

Thank you thank you TotoroForestProject, I got my order in on time and can’t wait to get my copy. I can’t believe there are actually people out there selling them on EBAY. That disgusts me.

I’ve been checking this blog almost daily until a few days ago when I was away from internet. Shame on me! I hope a second printing happens. Also, have you considered doing pre-orders for the next batch? It might help with the rush of people ordering.

Congrats on all the success for the Totoro Forest Project!

Congratulations on the quick sales of the book … I hope you do consider a second printing, especially with the Cartoon Art Museum showing.

There’s definitely a number of people who’d still like to purchase the book; the question is HOW MANY? You may want to pre-sale a certain number to cover the costs of a second printing. I don’t think people would mind a 10-12 week wait if they knew they’d get a copy of the book. And, if those orders are prepaid, don’t stop people from buying more than two copies. Let them buy three, five or 10 copies if they want. We all know that the book is a marvelous gift for any fan of Miyasaki or the artists involved in the project.

Any leftovers/extras after your sales during the Cartoon Art Museum show and Internet offering could probably be shipped to Japan and sold with the shirts and other merchandise there to help support the Sayama Forest.

I also thought you guys might want to consider offering up to five books on eBay — similar to what the artists at Disney did with “Who is Rocket Johnson” — autographed by Dice, Enrico, Ronnie and some of others who show up for the artists’ reception at the Cartoon Art Museum. The higher auction price simply means more money for the Foundation.

By going forward with a second printing and offering up a few signed books on eBay, you should be able to thwart some of those eBay sellers asking $80 or more for the book and make many more of those people who want the book quite happy.

A limited amount of the Totoro Forest Project catalogs are now on sale at the Cartoon Art Museum.

Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:

*We are selling the book for $50, plus tax. That’s a slight mark-up, yes, but $40 of the sale price goes to the Tororo Forest Fund, and the extra $10 goes to the Cartoon Art Museum (an educational non-profit museum) to help offset some of our exhibition costs.

*We’re selling the catalog first-come, first-served at our admissions desk, limit one book per customer. We aren’t taking any phone orders or reservations, since we expect these to sell out very quickly.

*Dice is holding on to a limited amount of books to be sold at the Alternative Press Expo on November 1-2 at the Concourse in San Francisco (http://www.comic-con.org), so you’ll have an additional chance to get the book in person if you miss out at the Cartoon Art Museum.

If you have any additional questions, please visit the Cartoon Art Museum’s website (http://www.cartoonart.org), blog (http://cartoonart.livejournal.com), or track me down through Facebook or the Cartoon Art Museum’s homepage.

Thanks again for everyone’s support of the Totoro Forest Project!

Just got an e-mail from Stuart NG books and they have 10 copies, but they are $95 each. Seems a bit steep for a charity book…more than twice the original price. Maybe they have a legit reason for charging that much, but still makes me feel a bit queasy they wouldn’t at least agree to give more to the charity for charging so much.

It’s a perfect opportunity to make more money for the charity. That is, unless they don’t really need more money.
    2nd printing! 2nd printing! 2nd printing!
I mean, heck, you could even get pre-order money to pay for the printing. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.
Make 5x as many, charge an extra 5$, save the forests. Easy, no?
